    The Erie Canal connected Albany on the Hudson with the Great Lakes at Buffalo. The Erie Canal actually originated at New York and it runs for almost 363 miles connecting several places. This canal has now become a part of the New York State Canal System. This was of immense importance before as it connected New York, the Buffalo lakes with the Atlantic Ocean. In the years gone by water transport was of immense importance as well the cheapest kind of transport available. In those days this canal was highly important to all people.
