When the Nubian civilization lost control of ancient Egypt and moved south to Meroë, the Nubians retained many Egyptian cultural influences in the areas of art and architecture. They stopped using Egyptian hieroglyphics, however, and developed their own alphabet script for the Meroitic language instead. How does this compare to what happened when the Bantu peoples moved south of the equator?
