Why did the colonists criticize the Stamp Act as "taxation without representation"?

Colonists criticized the Stamp Act as "taxation without representation" because it was a tax levied by Parliament onto the American colonies without the American colonists having representation in that very Parliament. Colonists felt it unfair that Parliament could levy taxes without the colonies being allowed a say in those decisions.
