His kingdom was divided up into three major sections under his three grandsons: west Frankish lands, east Frankish lands, and the Middle Kingdom. Local nobles gained power while the rulers fought each other. Invasions in different parts of the old Carolingian world added to the process of disintegration. The Vikings were Germanic people who loved adventure and new avenues of trade may have led them to invade other parts of Europe. 911, the ruler of the west Frankish lands gave one band of Vikings land, this is now called Normandy. The Frankish set rules for settling and they converting them to Christianity was a main rule. as a result, the Vikings became part of Europian civilization. (I got this out of my world history text book so this is all textual evidence!)
