    The Salem witch trials were a series of prosecutions and trials of people who were believed to be witches or else be involved in witchcraft in Massachusetts in 1692 and 1693, and as such part of the American history. Specifically, at that time Massachusetts was a colony of the (British) Crown, and later became a US state.
