The Indian Appropriations Act of 1851 committed money for establishing additional American Indian reservations. This act was to allocate funds for tribes living in the Western part of the United States to move onto reservations. Because of centuries of the Native Americans lack of security, this act was designed to protect Native Americans from the Whites encroaching and to let the Native Americans keep a part of their lands, where Whites would not own land. This land had been given by the government, who had drawn the lines, and was protected by the government. However, later on, we realized just how much reservations became a negative thing for the Native Americans, instead of a positive one.
