The Forbidden City was given its name because it was the home of the emperor and his family. it was surrounded by a stone wall twenty-five feet high. only native-born people were allowed to live there. trade was allowed only within the city boundaries.

    The Forbidden City was given its name because "it was the home of the emperor and his family" although it was also named this because it was considered the earthly counterpart to the North Star.
