    Disagreements between the British settlers and the Spanish Empire, both struggling for American land, prompted the Spanish measure of closing the ports of New Orleans for American products. With this measure, in addition to guaranteeing the trade monopoly, the Spaniards intended to harm the economy of their opponents.
