Why were people hesitant to give much power to state governments

    Our framers didn't want to give too much power to state governments because otherwise, they would continue to act like 13 individual countries instead of one unified country. That's why, in the Constitution, they gave most of the power to the federal government, but they did include rights that the states have so they wouldn't feel like the central government was dominating over them.
