Why did congress create a national currency?

    One currency used by everyone is much more efficient than bartering. If someone need wheat from a farmer but the farmer only wants crops in return only other farmers can trade with them. However, if there is one currency everyone has use for it so anyone with money can get wheat from the farmer.
