    Native American populations were threatened by the expansion of European settlers territory beginning in the 1500s and 1600s. Following the beginning of European settlement in the Americas Native American populations were threatened by disease, exploitation, and military conquest. These forces continued for the following centuries leading to enormous losses of land, destruction, and loss for the Native American populations.
