During the 18th century, women were granted more opportunities for an education and work. If employed, most likely paid significantly less. (Unfortunately, this issue continues today in some areas and professions.) Females were still viewed strongly as property of the father/husband, or only one to care for the household, but within about two-hundred years, women in western societies were considered fairly equal with men.
