The answer is b. it joined the Central Powers. The reason behind this was that Turkey had both economic and military ties to Germany. It succeeded in resisting Allied forces in Gallipoli but it did not do well in the Middle East. British forces were able to capture Damascus, Beirut, Baghdad, Aleppo, Egypt, Palestine, Arabia and Mesopotamia from the Turks. When the Central Powers lost the war, Allies divided the Empire’s territory through the Treaty of Sevres in 1920. This led to an overthrow of the Empire by the Turkish National Movement led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the establishment of a new Republic of Turkey.
