The code of hammurabi and chinese leagalism both rely on the idea that whatever the person did to you, you do the same way in response. In their saying "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’. This means that if a person, let’s say, has offend you, say stole a piece of bread from you, you stole a piece of bread as well in return for revenge and justice. This can be okay in this case, however it gets complex when we’re talking about bigger crimes such as rape, murder, etc.
