The best answer is b. After the last U. S, troops left Saigon on April 30th 1975, that same day Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, fell to the North Vietnamese troops. However the North and South speedily became unified into one nation with Hanoi as the new capital. The Vietnamese decided to rename their country from Democratic Republic of Vietnam to Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), clearly indicating that they wished to become socialists and then communists. Many military officers in the former South Vietnamese regime were captured and sent to re-education camps which really prison camps.
