When European powers fought one another during this period, it was over territories where Native Americans and settlers were living. Wars that were fought during this period often affected both groups. Both sides had Native American tribes fighting for them. Apart from being used in these conflicts, many of these tribes were nearly wiped out by diseases brought by colonists and settlers. On the relationship between settlers and Indians, both have fought each other over land. The Native Americans resented the intrusion of settlers into their ancestral territory and this led to numerous conflicts between them.
