    Good margins. High profit overseas for a tradeable good, low costs due to slave labor

    Many laborers on the plantations of Virginia were brought from Africa in chains, and Virginia's major cash crop became tobacco. Because there was a great demand for Tobacco in England, and labor was available from servants and slaves, Tobacco became a successful cash crop.
