    Because Japan said they were going to be at peace but lied and attacked them

    The United States got involved due to Japan was allied with the Axis powers: Germany and Italy. By bombing Pearl Harbor, Japan knew it would take 6 months for the United States to retaliate. Along with Japan wanted the Phillipines and areas the United States navy controlled under territories.
