Why did people suddenly become so interested in the humanities

    Not sure when this refers to but I think that in the 1960's many youth had a backlash against traditional studies such as being an engineer or a scientist as it seemed like a narrow goal only for the sake of getting a well-paying career instead of genuinely pursuing knowledge as a search for truth such as it seemed studies like English literature, psychology, philosophy could provide.
