The correct answer is C) The Bay of Pigs invasion ended the standoff.

The bay of pigs invasion was an invasion to remove Fidel Castro from governing Cuba. It happened a year before the Cuban missile crisis so it couldn't have ended the standoff. The bay of pigs invasion failed and Castro remained in power. The other three options are true since ti was resolved diplomatically and not in a war.

"B) Relations between the United States and the Soviet Union improved afterward" does not accurately describe the Cuban Missile Crisis. Tensions remained high for a while.
