Why is the Exxon Valdez significant? It was the oil rig responsible for the spill in the Gulf of Mexico that continues to plague many U. S. businesses. It was an oil tanker that caused one of the worst oil spills in U. S. history, leading to the building of double-hulled ships. It was the oil rig that built many drills around the waters of Alaska which were specially designed to prevent dangerous spills. It was the oil tanker that spilled great amounts of oil into Prince William Sound and led to the end of all oil drilling there.

    The Exxon Valdez was the oil tanker that caused one of the worst oil spills in history. It spilled nearly 11 million gallons of oil, injuring over 28 species of wildlife. It lead to the use and building of double-hulled ships.
