A treaty, the Adams-Onís Treaty, was signed.

Spain gave Florida to America in exchange for settling another boundary dispute along the Sabine River in Texas.

The adams onis treaty which annexed florida to the US. Spain gave up this land because of frequent indian attacks which made spanish hold on the US weak at the time. Since spain didnt wanna deal with them they sold to US so it could be their problem.
