During the cold war, people were afraid of communists, both outside and inside the untied states. Red scare and McCarthy years, many of the freedoms guaranteed in the bill of rights were Limted. write a paragraph explaining what lessons can be learned from the McCarthy era about what U.     The U. S. citizens needed to for one protect their borders and defect/prison exchange spies Freedom of assembly was limited due to the fact of communist Americans and the U. S. government did not want them to meet. Also freedom of press and freedom of speech were limited due to american communists. The government put in the loyalty program to dismiss employees suspected of having ties to communism. The FBI disseminated damaging information on individuals to members of Congress to influence public opinion about the communist threat.
