When there was an expansion of the population, it resulted in famine and cash-crops displaced food crops and this led to the death of the natives due to new diseases such as smallpox. In addition, rebellion caused the death of thousands. Imperialism is when a mother country takes over a smaller nation or colony for political, social, and/or economic reasons.
