    John Constable was:

    C. a landscape painter who captured the scenery of his native southern England.

John Constable (1776-1837) was never financially successful in his own lifetime. (The story of many artists!) However, today his landscape works are highly prized. For instance, Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows, painted by Constable in 1831, sold at auction in 2015 for $5.2 million. That was an exceptionally high auction price for a Constable painting, but it is not uncommon for his works to fetch tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Two Constable paintings currently listed by Christie's auction house in London have estimated values between $250,000 and $800,000.
