Diplomatic relations between the countries were established in 1944. Вut now Syria-United States relations are officially non-existent. Relations were severed in 2012 due to the Syrian Civil War. The objects of the conflict are the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Golan Heights annexation, the Iraq War, and the Syrian civil war. In 2004, Syria has been subject to economic sanctions by the United States, most US products can not be exported to this country. In August 2008, the new sanctions, under which American companies could no longer participate in the Syrian oil production were introduced. In April 2011, the US government imposed additional sanctions against those involved in human rights violations and support the Assad regime.
