Who discovered the heliocentric theory

Nicolas Copernicus is most commonly sighted as advancing the notion of a heliocentric universe or the heliocentric theory in which the earth and the planets revolve around the sun and not the sun and planets around the earth which had previously been believed. This took place during the 16th century.
