How did merchantillism affect the northern colonies during the 16-1700's

    Basically it was the belief that the colonies existed primarily to benefit Great Britain. Under Mercantilism the people living in America were paying Great Britain for the land they were living on by sending most of there manufactured goods to Great Britain. Virtually no trade existed between the colonies and other nations.
