Why did the British plan to seize control of Albany, New York, in 1777?

    To cut off New England from the rest of the colonies

    Explanation:

    The theory was that with both New York City and Albany in British hands, they would then control the Hudson River and separate the particularly rebellious New Englanders from the rest of the colonies. It is simply the old divide and conquer theory.
