    US intervention in Iran in the 1950s led to the Islamic revolution of 1978. USA changed the political system in Iran therfore radical gropus which never bbefore occured in Iran (radicalism was rather part of sunni islam not shia islam) started to gain be mroe popualre especially as shah Pahalavi was seen as partly agent fo ofreign power
