Based on your reading of the following, how much education is required after high school to become a firefighter?

A post-secondary degree is not required for a position as a firefighter; however, there are written exams, interviews, and an EMT certification required in most states. There is an expectation of extensive long-term on-the-job training required for a position as well.

1 a completed college degree

2 no additional education is needed

3 all education will be on-the-job-training

4 one or more completed certification programs

    One or more Completed Certification Programs would be the correct answer, most to all Fire Departments / Stations require you get a certification in a specific field, such as CPR, EMS, EMR, Wildland Fire, Tactical Fire, etc.
