The length of a rectangle garden is 8 feet longer than its width. if the gardens perimeter is 196 feet what is the area of the garden. in square feet

    1) width = x

    length = x + 8

    perimeter = 2 (length + width)

    196 = 2 * (x+8+x)

    196 = 2 * (2x+8)

    196 = 4x + 16

    180 = 4x

    x = 45 (thats width)

    2) length would be 45+8=53

    3) area = length times width = 45 * 53 = 2385 square feet
