Recall that 0°C = 32°F and 100°C = 212°F

    (0,32) (100,212)

    slope = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

    slope (m) = (212 - 32) / (100 - 0) = 180/100 = 9/5 (or 1.8)

    so the slope of the line is 9/5 ... this means that a farenheit degree change is equivalent to a celsius change of 9/5 (or 1.8 degrees)

    now we find the y int.

    y = mx + b

    slope (m) = 9/5

    (0,32) ... x = 0 and y = 32

    now we sub and find b, the y int

    32 = 9/5 (0) + b

    32 = b

    so ur y int is 32 ... this means that when celsius temp starts at 0, farenheit temp is 32 degrees
