Why is it important to know how to multiply fractions in order to divide fractions?

When dividing fractions, why do we invert (find the reciprocal) and multiply?

    "When dividing fractions don't ask why, but flip the fraction and multiply" so in order to divide you must multiply

    " ... don't ask why ... "

    There's only 1/4 of a pizza and 12 people their, one third of the people want a piece of pizza.
