Juan has 16 coins, all nickels and dimes. This collection of coins is worth $1. 15. How many nickels and dimes are there?

    You would have 7 dimes and 9 nickels, this is because

    5n + 10d = 115 n + d = 16

    n = 23 - 10d n = 16 - d

    23 - 10d = 16 - d

    7 = 9d

    7/9 = d

    Therefore there is 7 dimes and 9 nickels
