    5 (x+3) = 3 (2x-1)

    **distribute

    5x+15=6x-3

    -5x - 5x

    **get like term together

    15=x-3

    +3 + 3

    **get x alone on one side of the equation

    18=x

    check your work by replacing the variable x with 18

    5 (18+3) = 3 (2·18 - 1)

    5·21=3·35

    105=105 yes!

    So, the number you are looking for is 18
