Each swim team member competes in one event. half do the crawl. three times more do the sidestroke than the breaststroke. three do the butterfly. one more does the breaststroke than the butterfly. how many members are there?

    You know three team members do the butterfly. One more team member does the breaststroke. Therefore, 4 members do the breaststroke, because 3 + 1 = 4. Three times more do the sidestroke than the breaststroke, so you have to multiply 4 by 3 and get 12. 12 members do the sidestroke. If you add the 3 memebers doing the butterfly, the 4 memebers doing the breaststroke, and the 12 members doing the sidestroke, you get 19. Since the other half of the team is doing the crawl, you have to multiply 19 by two to get the whole team. 19 times two is 38. There are 38 members on the swim team.
