A pirate's treasure chest is recovered. Every crew member is promised one item from the chest chosen at random by the first mate. In the chest are 6 rubies, 27 diamonds, 2 sapphires, 12 strands of pearls, 42 silver coins, and 7 gold coins. What is the probability that Billy, one of the crew members, will get a strand of pearls?

    It's 1/8 of a chance that he'll get a pearl. There are 96 treasures in the chest. 12 of them are pearls. 12/96 is converted into 1/8, therefore that is the answer
