If 40 percent of a number is 56 what was the original number? show model

    It is 140.

    Look, if you want to calculate percents you multiply with that percent divided by 100.

    So if you want to calculate 40 percent of x you:

    x*0.4=56

    devide the equation with 0.4

    x=56/0.4

    x=140
