    2x + 4 = - (-7x + 6)

    2x + 4 = 7x - 6

    10 = 5x

    2 = x

    x = 2

    First, you distribute the - 1 that is outside your (-7x + 6). Next, you add the six over to 4 which equals 10. At the same time, subtract the 2x over to the 7x which equals 5x. To get x alone you must divide by 5. When you divide 10 by 5 you get 2. Therefore, x = 2.
