Leon found the sum 5/6and2/3 to be 11/12. How can you tell that his answer is incorrect without calculating

    It can' be 11/12 because 5/6 nearly equals a whole number. Even when you add 1/3, the sum will be greater than one. The correct sum to 5/6 and 2/3 is 9/6, or reduced to 1 1/2.
