    Parallel lines will have the same slope

    the slope is usually denoted by "m"

    now the slope-intercept form of a line is given by

    y=mx+b

    the standard form of a line is given as

    Ax+By=C

    converting standard to slope intercept

    By=-Ax+C - - - subtract Ax to both sides

    y = - A/B x + C/B - - - divide B to both sides

    m = - A/B
