    A rational number can be written as a fraction so 9.6 is rational

    An irrational number cannot be written as a fraction so the decimal is non-repeating and doesn't end. (example: pi π = 3.14159265358 ...) Easiest way to write/express an irrational number is by root.

    9.5 < x < 9.7

    (9.5) ² < x² < (9.7) ²

    90.2 < x² < 94.09

    Find a number inbetween 90.2 and 94.09 and square root it for a non repeating decimal.

    Irrational:

    x = √ (92.17)
