A bookcase has two shelves. the top has 10 more than 1/3 the number of books on the bottom shelf. There are 12 books on the bottom self. How many books are on the top self?

    The bottom shelf has 12 books.

    Twelve divided by one-third equals four.

    Four plus ten equals fourteen.

    There are 14 books on the top shelf.
