Why is the greatest common factor of two prime numbers always 1?

    "it has to be 1.

    factors of prime numbers are 1 or themselves.

    example: factors of 5 are 1 and 5

    factors of 7 are 1 and 7.

    the only factor common to all prime numbers is "1"."
