Simplify the left side first by distributing the 2 across (x+2)

    2x - 4 + 2 = 2x - 1

    Simplify again

    2x - 2 = 2x - 1

    Subtract 2x from both sides

    -2 = - 1

This is obviously not true, and so the original equation has no solutions
