Suppose the university bursar said that 600 students entered for Business Mathematics, 300 entered for Statistics while 173 students entered for both Business Mathematics and Statistics. How many students enrolled in the two courses altogether?

    173 did both

    600 - 173 = 427 just did just Business Math

    300 - 173 = 127 just did just Statistics

    so there were (427 + 127 + 173) = 727
