Bill went to the truck for one day there was a base fee of $16.99 there was an additional charge of $0.97 for each mile driven. Bill had to pay $173.16 when he returned the truck. for how many miles did he drive the truck?

    The equation: 16.99+0.97x=173.16

    Solve for x:

    0.97x=156.17 (subtract the 16.99)

    x=161 (divide by 0.97)

    He drove 161 miles
