A geometry class has a total of 34 students. The number of males is 14 more than the number of females. How many males and how many females are in the class?

    M=14+f, m+f=34. Solve for the equations simultaneously.

    one way is to substitute teh first into the second to get, 14+2f=34, or 7+f=17, or f=10. Since f is 10 and m+f=34, m=34-10=24.
