    10/30 = x / 9 ... 10 hrs to 30 miles = x hrs to 9 miles

    cross multiply

    (30) (x) = (9) (10)

    30x = 90

    x = 90/30

    x = 3 < = = = so it took 3 hrs to walk 9 miles
